I'm in my last year of highschool and of course the future and aspirations are a huge topic. I've known since I was very young that I wanted to become some sort of artist and when I became 14, having experimented with Flash I thought I DEFINITELY want to become an animator. I've felt so confident in my career decision until recent years. All my friends want to be doctors, CEO's, lawyers, engineers etc. Careers that made direct contributions to society and it made me feel kinda silly. I felt a little stupid for what I wanted and when people asked about what I wanted to do after school I would murmur 'Something in IT...maybe'. I'd tell some people about my passion and they'd give a little laugh and take it lightly unintentionally crushing me. I'd be ashamed because I felt wanting to be an animator or an artist was a childish dream and did nothing to help society.
I've now come to accept my aspirations. I've realised that art can hep society. For instance, Picasso's works helped demonstrate the horrific impacts of war on the people and Banksy helps shed light on important social issues. Art moulds our culture and helps bring ideas and issues into perspective. Disney movies have become a major influence on children and future generations. I don't know if anyone else can relate. I feel following one's passion is a great way to live the once chance at life that we have. :) I'd also love if any experienced animators out there would share their experiences with me and provide advice that would help a high schooler achieve her dream career. Thanks fr reading!
